Tip #904: Be a Lamp, a Lifeboat, or a Ladder

This Tip is a year-end message to be a lamp, a lifeboat, or a ladder for 2021 with hopes and prayers for a new year.

“If you light a lamp for someone else it will also brighten your path.”  Buddha

Be a Lamp, a Lifeboat, or a Ladder

I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season full of joy and laughter.

I hope that we begin the new year with hope, health, and healing.

May we value and treat each other with civility, kindness, and appreciation.

Let us collaborate and resolve our differences.

May we have a positive impact where we can.

And, as Rumi wrote, may we “be a lamp, a lifeboat, or a ladder” to those in need.

A Lamp

Sometimes, people need help seeing the light, or awareness of what is good and true in the world.

Other times, people need someone to guide their way, to knowledge, to health, to new skills.

I am always drawn to light images, so the idea of being a lamp satisfies my soul.

A Lifeboat

There are probably times in each of our lives when we need a lifeboat.

It can be a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or even an aquaintance who is there to help us through the trials and tribulations of life.

It might be a nurse or a doctor helping you through a health emergency.

Police investigating a crime against you or your property. Relatives offering help when our circumstances drastically change.

A Ladder

Many of us got where we are because of a helping hand or hearty encouragement to climb our career ladder. Sometimes they pushed from behind. Other times they pulled us up.

We do get by with a little help from our friends.

I hope you have all the help you need, whether a lamp, a lifeboat, or a ladder.

And hopefully, we will be willing to become others’ lamp, lifeboat, or ladder when they are in need.

May your learning be sweet- and safe.

Deborah
