Deborah Laurel embarked on her international trainer career in 1998. Her journey began with two five-day train-the-trainer workshops for small business consulting centers in Osijek and Dubrovnik, Croatia. This initiative, supported by the Open Society Institute, laid the foundation for Deborah’s continued work in Croatia.
From 1998 to 2002, Deborah worked closely with J.J. Strossmeyer University in Osijek, Croatia. She played a vital role in designing the first Eastern European participant-based Master’s Degree program in Entrepreneurship. Deborah’s involvement included training professors, auditing their training programs, and offering personalized coaching to improve course design and classroom presentation. The program has resulted in over 100 new businesses in Croatia, demonstrating its real-world impact.
From 2011 to 2013, Deborah collaborated with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). She worked with international experts to develop training materials and guides for the Fan System Optimization (FSO) program. These programs ranged from one-day sessions for end users to a comprehensive six-day expert training. Deborah adapted and revised materials to suit local contexts in South Africa, Malaysia, and Russia.
In 2011, Deborah began her partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). For the SHOPS Project, she designed business management training programs for healthcare providers in Lagos, Nigeria. Her modules included Managing a Healthy Business and Financing a Healthy Business. She also trained local trainers to deliver these programs.
In 2012, she conducted Designing and Delivering Dynamic Learning programs for USAID in both Nigeria and Jordan. In Jordan, she expanded her expertise by designing a six-day Social Marketing training for the USAID Public Action for Water project.
Deborah’s international work continued in Zambia and Kenya, where she piloted business management programs for small private institutions and medical practices. Her 22-day Business Management for Medical Practices in Africa program, piloted in Nairobi, prepared healthcare providers for the complexities of managing medical practices.
In 2014, Deborah returned to Nairobi to train local trainers to deliver this comprehensive program.
In 2015, Deborah facilitated Interest-Based Negotiation Skills and Designing and Delivering Dynamic Learning programs for Mercy Corps in Jordan. That same year, she delivered the Technical Trainer’s Toolbox for the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in Dubai. Due to its success, she returned to conduct advanced programs, including How to Design an Accelerated Learning Program and How to Avoid Learner Overload.
In 2017, Deborah returned to Jordan to lead another six-day Designing and Delivering Dynamic Learning program for Mercy Corps.
In 2023, Deborah started working with The Answer Is Yes Academy in Australia converting many workshops to online courses. As an International Trainer, Deborah has joined other renowned coaches and consultants to provide easy access to training and development opportunities for businesses.
