Participant-Centered Curriculum

Overview

This two-day skill-building workshop focuses on creating a participant-centered curriculum. Designed for both novice and experienced trainers, it aims to enhance program content and improve learning outcomes. The workshop integrates the UCLA Mastery Teaching Model with accelerated learning principles. This combination allows trainers to practice effective instructional techniques. Research shows that these methods can significantly enhance adult learning.

Objectives

The primary objective of this workshop is to empower trainers. Participants will learn to create detailed lesson plans centered around participants’ needs. Additionally, they will design exercises that cater to diverse adult learners. The training also serves seasoned trainers, providing updates on the latest techniques. They will gain access to new learning activities and instructional strategies.

Developing Lesson Plans

Day One: Developing Lesson Plans

On the first day, participants will focus on the first three steps of a six-step process. These steps are designed to help trainers develop effective lesson plans. Trainers will analyze their current training programs. They will identify areas for improvement and adapt their content accordingly. This process encourages collaboration and peer feedback, fostering a supportive learning environment.

Participants will also practice formulating clear learning objectives. These objectives guide the lesson plan and ensure that the training meets participants’ needs. By the end of Day One, each trainer will have a foundational lesson plan to build upon.

Day Two: Designing Learning Activities

On Day Two, the focus shifts to completing the lesson plans. Participants will work through the last three steps of the six-step process. They will learn how to design engaging learning activities that facilitate participant involvement. These activities can include group discussions, role-playing, and hands-on exercises.

In addition to activities, participants will create trainer instructions. These instructions provide guidance on delivering the lesson effectively. By incorporating various instructional strategies, trainers will enhance the overall learning experience.
